Firefox

Saturday, April 26, 2008

So I know Firefox is better. I've heard all the reasons why. Everything works on it....

But although I know this, I've always just used Internet Explorer on my laptop because:

  • It was on my computer from the beginning
  • I've customized it to my needs
  • all of my feeds were right there
  • it rarely gave me problems
well of course after 3 years of using IE it wouldn't last. Just recently it just stopped working completely. So it was time for the change. But I'd like to challenge everyone's weird devotion to Firefox. It really is not perfect...but since I'm stuck with it now, I want to learn to like it, and figure out how to make it just as good to me as IE once was, or, well..better.

I guess, just to start, when I made the switch, it decided to put all of my imported favorites in alphabetical order. Why in the world would I want that? (it's fixed now, still...) and it didn't import my feeds (which, looking at my friends blogs is pretty much the only thing I do on my computer so it's pretty important) so that was annoying to go and find them all again (but, problem is fixed).

Now what I hope someone can help me with is this:

When I download something it always saves it to the desktop.

...What possesses Firefox to make it think I want everything saved to my desktop?!?! My desktop is very pretty, thank you, and it's so annoying to have to go and organize everything after it's downloaded. >_<

Is there any Firefox savvy people out there that can tell me how to stop it from being so inconsiderate of my organizing needs? IE was nice about this. I'm kind of assuming there is a way to fix this too. ..

Now...thinking about this I've actually come up with some Biblical/theological implications of my Firefox problem, but I've still promised to keep my posts short... If you want to hear them, ask me in person! ^_^

But a basic summary would be, concerning my life right now, I'll just say that there are more than just internet browser issues, but in all of the issues I am learning about change and challenges and trusting God in them and enjoying what He wants to teach me in it...

:)

hi Christy, good move with the Firefox switch! I've seen so many peoples IE just randomly stop working like that and its such a pain to fix.

With the downloads, poke around in your options menu (I think its Tools > Options or something like that) and there is a tab where you can change the location where your downloads get saved.

With the feeds, have you tried using a feed reader like Google Reader or NetNewsWire?

Hi Sam!

Hey you're right! I can choose "always ask me to save files." Perfect!

For the feeds, they work now, it's just I had to re-find them all and re-subscribe, instead of having them transfer over from IE easily, and it just kind of took me a while. There probably was an easier way to do it. Oh well. :)

Thanks for your help!
